WP 2: Expansion to NAS and Beyond

Objectives

The objective is to explore how the emerging European network can expand to include the Newly Accessed States (NAS) and link with other networks around the world.

Description of Work

The University of Vienna will explore, together with top institutions in Eastern Europe, roadmaps for integrating research and teaching in digital culture in new member states, Eastern Europe, and Asia (Russia, China etc.), and produce a document outlining a concrete plan how the E-Culture Network can share content with other networks around the world. The Centre PIC in Moscow will comment on this document.

The Foundation of the Hellenic World (FHW) will examine links with the United States (particularly Internet II, NCSA, NINCH). FHW will also explore the possibility of establishing links with other networks or singular organizations in the Mediterranean area. FHW is presently leading the work for electronic cultural content acquisition and validation of the EUMEDIS project MEDINA, starting within the first months of 2002 and aiming at the establishment of a Euro-Mediterranean cultural portal.
